At ALC we are committed to making the Gospel good news by caring for vulnerable and displaced people, the canaries of society.
Canaries are used in mining to determine if a mine is safe from toxic gases. If the canary dies it serves as a warning that the air in the mine is unsafe and that those inside are now in danger as well.
There are certain groups of people that serve this same role in society as well. If these “canaries” are not cared for they serve as a warning that the health of the community is in danger. Conversely, when these canaries thrive then societies are positioned to grow and thrive as well.
At Abundant Life Church we see the canaries of society to be the vulnerable and displaced people of the world and we are committed to giving ourselves to make the Gospel good news for them.
- The vulnerable people in society, locally and around the world, are those who are not able to help themselves and need others to care for them and empower their voices. We will focus on those who are poor, widows, foster children and orphans.
- The displaced people in society, locally and around the world, are those who are without a home or have fled their home. We will focus on immigrants and refugees, those who have been or are at risk of being trafficked for sex, and those living on the streets or in shelters.
“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’” Matthew 25:37-40
We can’t do this on our own
As a church, we partner with established and trusted organizations who share our vision, passion and purpose to see people transformed through the good news of the gospel of Jesus. You are joining forces with some amazing people doing incredible work around what God has called us to do.
We definitly can’t do this without you!
Here are a few ways that you can get involved in Outreach at ALC!
Serve with one of our Outreach Partners
Jesus called us to “go into all of the world.” This is a call to action. It’s a call to hear their stories. It’s a call to bring the hope of Jesus. We want to invite you to jump in with both feet and get involved in caring for others through our local or global partners.
Local Partners: We have multiple local partners. Please contact us to find out who we partner with.
Global Outreach Trips: We offer several Global Outreach trips each year to serve with or Global Partners. Most of the trips travel during the summer months (June – October).
Go to alcpnw.com/events to find out about upcoming trips
Give Generously around the world
When you give to ALC, you are not just giving to the church community. You are giving to see displaced children in a loving home, freedom for those enslaved for sex, refugees welcomed with love, the impoverished living with hope, widows experiencing care and support, and peace with all of our neighbors through our Outreach Partners.
Pray for the vulnerable and displaced people around the world
When you pray, you are joining in the transforming work God is doing around us and around the world. He is brining healing, hope, restoration and transformation in the world that we live in. We believe in the power of prayer to bring healing, strength, hope and to remind us that God is in control. Join us in praying for God’s healing to reach the vulnerable and displaced people around us and around the world.
